The Academy of General Dentistry Supports Anti-Zinc Denture Creams

Many have been filing Fixodent or Poligrip Lawsuit which is generally associated with the voluminous intakes of denture creams with zinc. The Academy of General Dentistry (AGD) gives effort in supporting plaintiffs of the said lawsuit. So, they come up with an article which discussed the importance of vigilant monitoring of zinc containing denture creams. Take note that AGD is a reliable source of information hence they are also the second largest dental association in the U.S. with 35,000 members. The title of the article that they published in their March/April edition which talks about excess zinc intake is "The Tooth about Zinc: What Every Denture Wearer Needs to Know" J.A. von Fraunhofer (M.Sc.,Ph.D), co-author of the published piece recommends the users to follow the product's instructions and dosages. Manuel A. Cordero, D.D.S., speaker on behalf of AGD, explains the tendency of a patient to use Fixodent or Poligrip denture cream because of ill-fitting denture. Age matters in this case, once your mouth changes the bone under denture will shrink or recede. So, if denture doesn't fit, patients will seek for more adhesive denture creams like Fixodent and Poligrip.

Researchers knew that the effect of over-used zinc containing products is nerve damage. The study promoted by the researchers of the University of Texas, entitled "Denture Cream: An Unusual Source of Excess Zinc, Leading to Hypocupremia and Neurologic Disease" reveals the link between denture cream zinc and nerve damages. The active users of denture cream zinc two tubes per week. Those patients have been suffering from neurologic abnormalities, hypocupremia (low copper levels) and hyperzincemia ( high zinc levels). Too much use of denture zinc containing creams could lead you to suffer nausea, stomachache and oral irritation. Although, these are initial symptoms yet, but if left untreated, one will suffer paralysis or even death. GSK and P&G have failed to include zinc in their product label as an ingredient. Meaning, they lack proper instructions in their products. If you have suffered initial symptoms lately or have incurred damages from using Fixodent and Poligrip zinc-containing denture creams, you need a lawyer. Lawyers are experts to help you claim what you deserve. Want to know more updates? Click on the links provided for more info.
